O que vale a minha vida? No fim (não sei que fim)
Um diz: ganhei trezentos contos,
Outro diz: tive três mil dias de glória,
Outro diz: estive bem com a minha consciência e isso é bastante...
E eu, se lá aparecerem e me perguntarem o que fiz,
Direi: olhei para as cousas e mais nada.
E por isso trago aqui o Universo dentro da algibeira.
E se Deus me perguntar: e o que viste tu nas cousas?
Respondo: apenas as cousas... Tu não puseste lá mais nada.
E Deus, que é da mesma opinião, fará de mim uma nova especie de santo.

Un autre dit : j'ai eu trois mille jours de gloire
Un autre dit : j'ai été bien avec ma conscience et ceci suffit
Et moi, s'ils se présentaient là et me demandaient ce que j'ai fait,
Je dirai : j'ai regardé les choses et rien de plus.
Et c'est pour cela que j'ai ici l'Univers dedans ma poche.
Et si Dieu me demandait : Et qu'as-tu vu dans les choses?
Je réponds : seulement des choses... Tu n'y as rien mis d'autre.
Et Dieu, qui est de la même opinion, fera de moi une nouvelle espèce de saint.
